Provide First Aid
COURSE OVERVIEW – This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, include community and workplace settings.
Specific licensing requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training, should be obtained from the relevant state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authority.
TOPICS COVERED
- Recognise an emergency situation
- Assess the casualty and situation and seek assistance where required
- Perform cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Provide first aid and monitor the casualty’s condition and respond within established principles
- Use available resources and equipment
- Operate first aid equipment to manufacturers instructions
- Convey details to Emergency Services
- Workplace reporting and confidentiality of records
- Recognising psychological impact in critical incidents
DURATION – 6 hours, 8:00am – 2:00pm
ASSESSMENT – Throughout the course participants must demonstrate competency during a series of practical skills evaluation and written assessments.
LICENCES & CERTIFICATION -This course is Nationally Recognised Training and applicants’ deemed competent at the conclusion of the course will be provided with a Statement of Attainment.
