Use and maintain chainsaws
The unit applies to individuals who cut materials with a hand held chainsaw in a variety of work settings, including sawmills, forest product manufacturing facilities, timber yards, horticultural environments, construction, polymer processing and other manufacturing settings.
This unit of competency describes the knowledge and skills required to maintain fuel or electrically powered hand-held chainsaws. The unit includes completing routine maintenance service as well as periodic maintenance servicing and chain sharpening. The unit applies to individuals who maintain chainsaws for or as part of arboriculture, forestry, horticulture, agriculture, conservation and land management, local government, emergency services and other government agency operations.
All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, according to state/territory health and safety regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace.
- Prepare for operation
- Cut material
- Hazard identification, assess risks and control measuresPerform routine operator maintenance
- Prepare for chainsaw maintenance
- Complete chainsaw maintenance
- Complete maintenance records and clean up
- You will be required to conduct mathematical calculations throughout this course
- You must supply 100 points of identification, including (1) form of current photo
- Wear comfortable and practical clothing and enclosed footwear
REASSESSMENT – Applicants deemed not yet competent will be provided the opportunity to undergo further training. Fees may apply for further training and reassessment.
LICENCES & CERTIFICATION – This course is a Nationally Recognised Training and applicants’ deemed competent at the conclusion of the course will be provided with a Statement of Attainment for FWPCOT2259 and FWPCOT2254
